BARRY ALEXANDER
Barry Alexander began his professional singing career with his first recital at age four. By the time he entered college age the age of fourteen, he had already performed hundreds of concerts throughout the United States. A graduate of Princeton University where he studied English Literature, he also received a degree in German Literature from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. It was his work there that launched his international career, and saw him performing not only throughout Europe, but also Africa and the Middle East. Fifteen years later, returning to the United States and turning his attention to more entrepreneurial pursuits, Mr. Alexander realized the need for classical music artists to be represented by publicists who were fully aware of the unique needs of this market. He thus founded Alexander & Associates, a public relations firm specializing in publicity for classical musicians. As a result of Cosmo Buono establishing a business partnership that made the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition a client of Mr. Alexander’s firm, the two gentlemen went on to expand their partnership by creating three more competitions for voice, strings and flute. This would soon lead to Alexander & Buono Artists, as well as The Alexander & Buono Foundation, which raises funds for scholarships and study grants that help further the careers of classical musicians. In addition to his work with the competitions and foundation, Mr. Alexander continues to perform throughout the world as a recitalist and guest artist, as well as teaching master classes. He also serves as the Executive Co-Director of The Alexander & Buono Festival of Music in Abano Terme, Italy.
COSMO BUONO
Cosmo Buono first came to international prominence with the Bradshaw & Buono piano team. Specialists in literature written for one piano four hands, and two pianos, the artists did much to restore awareness of rare works written by Chopin, Liszt, Rossini, and Schubert. By continuing a tradition of distinguished piano duos begun with Liszt-Chopin and Debussy-Casella, they played in major capitals and festivals throughout the world including New York’s Alice Tully Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and the Mostly Mozart Festival, all while creating a discography that includes Grammy-nominated recordings. A native of New Jersey, Mr. Buono completed his musical studies at New York University, Bard College, and The Juilliard School. As a soloist he has been heard in North America, Europe, and Japan, including performances with the Munich Philharmonic and the Danish State Radio Orchestra. In addition to performing, Mr. Buono has distinguished himself as one of the foremost teachers of the Leschetizky Method in the United States. Leschetizky was known for producing pianists capable of a resonant, almost voice-like quality on the piano, and it is that same technique which is part of Mr. Buono’s overall pedagogy. Advocating rich, expressive playing, he discourages students from note-perfect performances that lack enthusiasm, in favor of a complete understanding and communication of the musical idiom of the composer. Through Alexander & Buono Artists, he partners with Mr. Alexander to put before the public some of the best performers in the world, while helping them sustain the careers that will provide both longevity and an appropriate forum for their talents. |
