Humanity Quartet

The Humanity Quartet is a uniquely cooperative jazz ensemble comprised of a special generation of musicians who celebrate having known each other and sharing music together for 30 years. Its members have been associated with the likes of Sonny Rollins, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Carter, Phil Woods, Johnny Griffin, Lou Donaldson, Dewey Redman, Lee Konitz, Betty Carter, Mark Murphy, Kenny Barron, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Tom Harrell, Jacky Terrasson, and Brad Mehldau, among many others.

Bassist and composer Sean Smith’s long time association with world renowned Leon Parker (drums/percussion) serves as the foundation of the group. Together they act as willing and adept accomplices in the rhythmic dance while
simultaneously supporting the soloist. The majority of the quartet’s repertoire is made up of Sean’s lyrical originals.

Joel Frahm (saxophone), perhaps the greatest improviser of his generation, adds his undeniable sound to the group. Also known as one of the nicest people in jazz, his boundless energy and his ability to play with any musical idea set him apart. Joel also contributes compositions to the band. Peter Bernstein (guitar) has been part of the international jazz scene for more than 25 years and is widely recognized as the premier guitarist of his era.

Deeply rooted in tradition, with an indelible emphasis on swing and infectious melody, the message of the Humanity Quartet represents a sharing of ideas and feelings that bring people together in an increasingly divided world.
